Why make a resolution that you KNOW will never happen? Why not call them wishes?

Anyway, I've decided this year to make reasonable resolutions. Reasonable resolutions that I KNOW I can accomplish easily. So, here goes..

This is half of my stash. As you can see, I have a bit of a problem. No,I do not plan on buying less yarn (that is just blasphemy). The plan is to get a bit more organized and photograph one to four skeins a day until my entire stash is up on ravelry.

My second resolution...

..is to knit a decent looking sweater for Cuqui. I am so over my precious rockstar looking like a preppy schoolboy. No, I did not pick out or BUY this hideous sweater. Unfortunately, she has had to use it for the past four days because it has been COLD (like 20 degrees cold) in Houston and her natural fur coat just isn't enough!

And lastly...

..I am going to knit as many socks as I want!

Pattern: Rivulets by Wendy Johnson
Yarn: Stalwart Sock by Slackford Studio LLC
Colorway: Limon
Needles: Size 1
Started: January 1, 2009
Cast on: Judy's Magic Cast On
Heel (to be used): Slip Stitch
Cast off(to be used) : Sewn bind off
Bag: Small wedge bag by Piddleloop

Yes, I know I already knit socks like mad but I'm trying to keep my momentum going!

Last FO of 2009

Pattern: Toe-Up Socks with Gusset Heel by Wendy Johnson
Yarn: Seacoast Handpainted Superwash Sock
Colorway: Royal
Needles: Size 1
Started: December 24, 2009
Finished: December 30, 2009
Cast on: Judy's Magic Cast On
Heel : Gusset
Cast off : Sewn bind off

I end this year with a pair of socks and will begin 2010 with another. Why delude myself with grandeur plans of knitting scarves, hats, mittens, etc? When the reality is:

1). I do NOT do well with time contraints (one and only exception, Socks from the Toe up KAL).

2). I prefer to celebrate the holiday season stress-free. Therefore, I choose NOT to exchange gifts at this time of year. I do not decorate my place. I do not spend money I don't have. The more stress I can eliminate, the better for EVERYONE around me.

This would be extent of my holiday knitting (which it really isn't since it should have been completed for my boss in August but those time constraints..):

Pattern: Fascinate from Berocco.com
Yarn: Jade Sapphire Silk/Cashmere 2-ply in Silver Fox
Needles: size 7
Started: May 29, 2009
Finished: December 16,2009
Recipient: wife of one of my bosses

I thoroughly enjoyed knitting with the Jade Sapphire Silk/Cashmere. Yes, it was buttery goodness in my hands. Perhaps, it took me so long because subconciously, I secretly wanted to keep it for myself!

This week, the winter Knitty came out. I have been returning to the project page at least once a day to eye the lovelies. I can literally see myself knitting at least SIX of the projects!

Since, I could not wait until one of my WIPs was completed, I cast on the Citron by Hilary Smith Callis.

Pattern Citron by Hilary Smith Callis
Yarn: Malabrigo Lace in Lettuce
Needles: size 6
Started: December 16,2009

The pattern is a breeze. Oh, and it is the BEST justification (in my mind anyway) to purchase more Malabrigo!

My second finished item this week is, yes, another pair of toe-up socks with a gusset heel:

Pattern: Toe-Up Socks with Gusset Heel by Wendy Johnson
Yarn: Knitterly Things Vesper Sock Yarn
Colorway: Lumberjack
Needles: Size 1
Started: December 1, 2009
Completed: December 17,2009
Cast on: Judy's Magic Cast On
Heel : Gusset
Cast off : Sewn bind off

I must always have a plain vanilla sock on the needles. I could never get myself motivated to actually finish an item or two when joining a KAL, until now.

In June 2009, I joined the Socks From the Toe Up KAL on Ravelry. I HATE picking up stitches. By knitting socks toe up, I avoid wasting time by picking up stitches and my gusset to heel transition is MUCH prettier (no holes, etc).

2. Judy's Magic Cast On for toe-up socks is easy and makes the toes appear not so lumpy.

3. Elizabeth Zimmerman's Sewn bind off is beautiful when finished, stretchy and simple to do.

Now if I can only be inspired/motivated to keep up with this blog...

Stitch and Pitch 2009

This was a QUICK trip to St. Louis for Stitch and Pitch. From here on out, I promise to visit EVERY day! Er..or at least once a week...

I have restarted organizing my knitting WIPs and stash. I have told myself(yet again) to NOT indulge on any more NEW lovelies until some of these WIPs are actually finished. This week has been devoted to finishing...a LOT easier to say than do! I have yet to count how many current WIPs I have squirreled around here and am sort of afraid to do so!

For now, I have NINE, yes, count 'em, nine projects I would love to finish before the July. I can't just GO somewhere and NOT buy some fiber-goodness!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr0POqSUQI/AAAAAAAAAIY/ULlYgqIM7Z4/s400/DSCN1379.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213748061105443074" />

The Quarter Stitch is an adorable knitting store a block from Jackson Square. The ladies that own in are rather friendly and helpful.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr1DzlkXmI/AAAAAAAAAIg/P25UnJiNTTM/s400/DSCN1378.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213748964370964066" />

Every purchase you make is wrapped in bright tissue and ribbon as such:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr1nXE3TzI/AAAAAAAAAIo/w7UpOH0185Y/s400/DSCN1455.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213749575192891186" />

These are a couple skeins of worsted Malabrigo in violetas that I bought for my swap partner in Portugal. Hopefully, she likes it...

Because the flights were so full going to and from New Orleans, I chose to drive (actually be a passenger because I hate driving). So, I managed to finish one toe up-no purl Monkey.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr2oA-LH1I/AAAAAAAAAIw/TMpcdhSHEHU/s400/DSCN1452.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213750685950746450" />

Now, if only I can finish its partner...

At the end of the month, I went to St. Louis for Stitch and Pitch. I had planned to revisit Sheri at the Loopy Ewe and do a yarn crawl around St. Louis before the game.
Unfortunately, my buddy, Greg and I had a falling out of sorts. So, that left me on my own, carless. The falling out aside, I had a great time. My name was entered in a drawing to go on the field during batting practice and I WON!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr4tN2sxQI/AAAAAAAAAI4/14A753qR1R0/s400/DSCN1396.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213752974331659522" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr5FdWvXYI/AAAAAAAAAJA/_ya7WL1U1Ao/s400/DSCN1398.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213753390809439618" />

This would be Tony LaRussa (the Cardinals' manager) and Mike Shannon interviewing him.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr6KFNCTxI/AAAAAAAAAJI/HT2Q61ZIK60/s400/DSCN1409.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213754569737260818" />

I started the mate of some toe ups by Wendy Johnson.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr62BI8g3I/AAAAAAAAAJQ/PhZN3HI5Fok/s400/DSCN1410.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213755324560606066" />

Knitters to left, knitters to the right...It was BLISS!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr70U_U7lI/AAAAAAAAAJY/VE91tlSvS7c/s400/DSCN1411.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213756395040861778" />

I was running up to grab a beer and ran into Jennifer (who used to frequent the Houston Stitch and Bitch and lives in St. Louis).

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SFr8uGTEcWI/AAAAAAAAAJg/5ttELo0YeMo/s400/DSCN1447.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5213757387529548130" />

I finished the my toe ups a couple of weeks ago. I used a size 1, Duets' Sock Yarn Middy in Aubergine Willow

I started 2 more pairs of Wendy Johnson's plain toe up socks with gusset heel. Now, since I have a BUNCH (i.e. 3 skeins), I decided to make knee highs. We'll see how the shaping goes for the calf... Oh, the cute bag you see was acquired from SewBendy. Actually, I wound up with two of these adorable bags in a matter of two weeks. I love the fact that I can stand in line anywhere, knit, and not have to fiddle with yarn and notions falling out. Thanks Staci for the recommendation!

Tomorrow, I am off for Stitch and Pitch in Washington DC. Off to pack...

Spring Fling

What a weekend! I have never made 60+ instant friends in one weekend. The Loopy Ewe Spring Fling was truly lots of fun and SO well organized! Sheri and her elves REALLY out did themselves. I was truly impressed and happy how the weekend went. I still can't believe it is over.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkUZPswPoI/AAAAAAAAAHA/bCobDBEsopY/s400/DSCN1352.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195206069092105858" />

Upon checking in Thursday, we were given a lovely Loopy goodie bag with fabulous contents: a skein of the infamous Wollmeise (BTW,Claudia came all the way from Germany for this event!), a Cookie A pattern, a Wendy Knits pattern, a RED Loopy Ewe coffee mug, Everything Balm, and a couple of sampler skeins and pattern from Claudia Handpaints and Cherry Tree Hill.

My Friday consisted of a class in the morning with Wendy. I learned how to cast on using Judy's Magic Cast On. Prior to taking this class, I have been averse to toe up socks because I found the toe a tad messy looking (I used the figure 8 method). But now....WOW! I am totally a toe up convert! Thanks Wendy! After lunch, I took a class from Cookie A. She taught us how to go about designing a sock. After taking her class, it isn't that difficult, really.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkVefswPpI/AAAAAAAAAHI/y2gJN37lZ0Y/s400/DSCN1356.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195207258798046866" />

Friday afternoon, I finished my garter rib socks.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkV2fswPqI/AAAAAAAAAHQ/_YGzJmpll3g/s400/DSCN1358.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195207671114907298" />

A closeup shot on the detail. These were a quick knit. I'm contemplating doing these toe up!

With the newly acquired knowledge of Judy's Magic Cast On, I started a pair of toe up, no purl Monkey's in Cherry Tree Hill's Monet. I'm loving how I can try it on whenever I want to check for fit!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkWivswPrI/AAAAAAAAAHY/sx7vQ38wkJA/s400/DSCN1315.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195208431324118706" />

Saturday, I visited Loopy Central. Wow, Loopy Central has grown since it was in Sheri's basement!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkXYvswPsI/AAAAAAAAAHg/aobDcjOChL0/s400/DSCN1299.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195209359037054658" />

Ahem, more additions to my stash.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkXy_swPtI/AAAAAAAAAHo/JR7KL-KOvuY/s400/DSCN1300.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195209810008620754" />

Saturday night consisted of more knitting and a lovely tour all the floors of the hotel where we were staying. Ah yes...I forgot to mention the other events taking place in addition to the Spring Fling: a mini-liquor convention and a children's beauty pagent. Surprisingly enough, the liquor convention attendees were tame. Now, the parents of the children's beauty pagent...Well, let's just say, it was very,very,very sad, disturbing, and seemed to me, borderline child exploitation. These folks decorated the outside of their doors at the hotel. Some doors actually had BASKETS of candy for other hotel patrons.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkYiPswPuI/AAAAAAAAAHw/V376e5mgmds/s400/DSCN1329.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195210621757439714" />

I don't know which was worse: actually SEEING these scantily clad two year olds with caked on makeup for the swimsuit competition or photos of these kids. Either way it gave me the heebies.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SBkZO_swPvI/AAAAAAAAAH4/WHqW0D9eqjQ/s400/DSCN1351.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5195211390556585714" />

Sunday afternoon, I caught a Cardninals/Astros baseball game with Amy. The Cards won 5-1!

I have been home for a couple of days and am running around trying to get everything done before I leave tomorrow morning for New Orleans. Please don't let it RAIN!!

Swaps...I am involved in more swaps than I can shake a stick at! I received some lovely goodies from Keri at the Spring Fling. Upon arrival from St. Louis, I had a box waiting for me from Jessi (Caffeine addicts group on Ravelry). I'm leaving for St. Louis next week for the Loopy Ewe Spring Fling Retreat. A weekend of knitting, HOORAY! I can hardly wait!

The following weekend, I will be grooving at the New Orleans Jazz Fest. It's been 8 years since I had the oppurtunity to go and this year Stevie Wonder will be there (I adore Stevie's music)!

Since I last blogged, I have been working on all sorts of stuff. The only completed item is this lonely pair of plain ole socks.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SAkW4xB3MoI/AAAAAAAAAGg/eiu7oGyvvGE/s400/DSCN1287.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190705210010841730" />

These plain ole socks were made on 1s with Austermann Step on 1s. I must say I was skeptical about the hype, regarding the softness and etc. After knitting a pair of socks, washing and wearing them, I must say: YUM.

I started yet another pair of socks a couple of weeks ago.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SAkYIxB3MpI/AAAAAAAAAGo/8B1YkXjUpCM/s400/DSCN1288.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190706584400376466" />

These are a garter rib, on 1s, and Online Supersock. I'm working on the gusset on this bad boy's mate. I'm trying to venture out from my normal green/purple sock phase with BRIGHT and loud colours...

And last but not least:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SAkZZBB3MqI/AAAAAAAAAGw/MJCYdDGNhWs/s400/DSCN1289.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190707963084878498" />

Somehow, I was suckered into making this Forest Canopy Shawl for my coworker's mother. Actually, this is a quick knit and the pattern is EASY to memorize. I'm using 4s and ONE (that's right,one) skein of Malabrigo Lace.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/SAka7hB3MsI/AAAAAAAAAG4/DayTjZcpv3A/s400/DSCN1290.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5190709655301993154" />

Since, I have a ways to go and this requires some serious blocking, this is the best detail I'm able to show (unfortunately).

Earthquakes and snow don't get me down!

Earthquake rocks Athens
All co-workers are safe and accounted for in Athens, Greece (ATH) after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake lasting 15 seconds struck the area around noon today. BBC News reported no apparent casualties or damage (an excerpt from my companies' daily news update)

Yes, apparently this earthquake happened while I was on a plane from London to Athens. Actually, I did not find out about the earthquake until I got home and was skimming through my company emails..

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R9G_b-powCI/AAAAAAAAAFo/nBwHOQ73218/s320/DSCN1094.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175127934220419106" />

It also turns out that the last time it snowed in Athens was FOUR years ago. Yes, FOUR years ago...Two days after I arrived, it snowed and snowed... Mind you, I came prepared for cold weather but definitely not snow and ice. Trust me, the snow and ice did not stop me from running around Athens at all (my black and purple bum will attest to that)!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R9G-E-powAI/AAAAAAAAAFY/j5DLsNy6nvI/s400/DSCN1142.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175126439571800066" />

This is Greece telling me to come back in the fall. ALL of the sites of ruins were closed due to snow and ice.

As close as I got to the Acropolis...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R9G-_OpowBI/AAAAAAAAAFg/T7np8H9y1rg/s400/DSCN1145.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175127440299180050" />

I did indeed run across SEVERAL yarn stores. I was a bit disappointed at first because all I kept finding was Italian yarn. I adore Italian yarn, but I was procuring Greek yarn. Finally, after the 5th attempt, I found Greek yarn...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R9HAJupowDI/AAAAAAAAAFw/LbyUfWegfGk/s400/DSCN1187.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175128720199434290" />

Delfino is a brand of cotton and wool. For anyone with plans for Greece, I will be MORE than happy to give you the addresses for these two lovely yarn stores.

I did not get a lot of knitting done on this trip...It turns out knitting needles (addis, knit picks, any metal needles) are prohibited in your carry on luggage out of the UK, Greece, and Belgium.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R9HEIOpowII/AAAAAAAAAGY/acS8M84ArKo/s400/DSCN1150.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5175133092476141698" />

Here is the Pee-Pee Boy, also known as the Mannekin Pis in Brussels. I was hoping that he would be dressed up in a costume but it was not a holiday.

Yes, Belgium...Let's talk about Brussels....I simply adored Brussels and plan to run back the next chance I get. The cafes, beer, chocolate, mussels, and ABUNDANCE of yarn stores, oh my....
And really, I had plans to go to Germany after Greece but the flights were SUPER full.

Off to catch up on my MANY UFOs..

Greece, here I come!

Going to Peru just didn't work out due to a few flight cancellations (volcano ash, etc in Ecuador affecting stuff). No matter WHAT I did with it, the stupid sock STILL pooled!!

In order to appease my need for instant gratification...i.e. an actual FINISHED object or two, I decided hats would be a nice treat.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R6jeJbQTuHI/AAAAAAAAAEE/BvG_KdiaeZA/s400/DSCN0969.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163621226296621170" />

The Unoriginal hat
by Yarn Harlot was made with one skein of Rowan Big Wool in 25 on 11s. This was a quick, QUICK knit.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R6jfLLQTuII/AAAAAAAAAEM/kKSuo6DyzvM/s400/DSCN0958.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163622355873020034" />

Greta by Ysolda was made with 2 skeins of Noro Cash Iroha on size 5s for the ribbing and 7s for the remainder. I actually had to pay attention to what I was doing while knitting this (i.e. NOT a mindless knitting project) but also quick to knit up. After making this cute hat/beret, I feel compelled to make more things with the Noro Cash Iroha, which is so, so soft.

I had purchased a skein of Noro's Kureyon sock yarn about a month ago and was not crazy about it. I really tried to like it. I couldn't get past the hard texture and the colorway I had chosen. So, I gave it away. Well, since then I had read up on it, broke down and bought another skein.. Yes, I am very glad I gave it another try. I got over the hard texture. Once it is knit up, it does indeed soften significantly. I started RPMs today and have not been able to put this down...Yes, the anticipation of what color will come up next is GREAT!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R6ji7bQTuJI/AAAAAAAAAEU/kgcG7bq13I0/s400/DSCN0974.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5163626483336591506" />

I am so in love with the purples and greens and the RPM shows off the beauty of these colors together. Hooray!! The traveling itch can once again be scratched... Now, I won't go into drama that transpired in the passport office. However, rest assured, I have BOTH my new passport (with my name spelled correctly, ahem) and my expired passport (with my VALID visas intact, another ahem).

It looks like the itinerary in the next couple of weeks is calling for a trip to South America. A bit of sun and relaxation in Colombia and some yarn fondling in Peru. I can hardly wait!!

So, I have been starting and ripping out and starting and ripping out a new sock in Yarn Pirate's Killer Bees (another Booty club exclusive) to get the sock to stripe and not pool so much. Wow, what a headache.
This is what I have come up with for now:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R4-3I8jmB-I/AAAAAAAAADs/YmDE3FDvXZY/s400/DSCN0931.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5156541462684764130" />

Now, I am not completely ecstatic with the striping but I don't exactly hate it either. I have not decided or not if I like the somewhat diagonal stripe. I'm using 2.5s. I have increased and decreased the number of stitches cast on. As I have tried different sized needles. Anyway, I'll keep on trucking with what I have for now until I hit the heel.

Oh, the lovely purple bag dressing up my new WIP is made by JapaneseHandmadeEtc. I simply adore smaller bags for the portable projects. One day I will learn to sew...

And for today's sock stash enhancement segment:

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R4-5AcjmB_I/AAAAAAAAAD0/pCcgl3-RqiM/s400/DSCN0932.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5156543515679131634" />

Crystal Palace Yarns in Merino 5 acquired from Loopy Ewe.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R4-5icjmCAI/AAAAAAAAAD8/-7K9OE7SyHo/s400/DSCN0933.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5156544099794683906" />

Perchance to Knit in Irises also acquired from Loopy Ewe. It has been about 6 months since I last posted. Yep, life happens and takes its toll in many ways (not all fun and exciting). All is good now.

Of course, I am known for my bazillion WIPs. So, today I will share a FO that was so quick and easy to complete that I am actually contemplating making more!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R2F328cqLFI/AAAAAAAAACU/la9zC_e8nDo/s200/Nikon+400.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5143524035256790098" />

This is Hannah used with the handpainted version of Misti Alpaca Chunky. Houston has finally received a splash of cold weather (yep, it was in the 50s when I went for a run this morning). I tested this bad boy out this morning. I must say, it stayed on firmly on my head and was rather warm. It really is a great hat for those of us with long hair. I had some yarn left and I despise the mere thought of wasting good yarn. So, I started this scarf.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/R2F5w8cqLGI/AAAAAAAAACc/OwQy3VTwPgc/s200/Nikon+401.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5143526131200830562" />

The scarf is a simple garter stitch on size 19s. I plan making it extra long so that it can be wrapped multiple times. So, off I go for one more skein to finish. I really do like the way this handpainted chunky yarn knits up!

Baseball, beer, and knitting!

What can I say? I had a spectacular birthday this year in St. Louis. It all began with an afternoon of Stitch N' Pitch. The Cardinals played the San Diego Padres and WON 10-5 (what the Cardinals will do for a birthday)! Because there was SO much going on, I decided to take something mindless to knit: my Jaywalker.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/Rrup7VdnGmI/AAAAAAAAAB8/LThjAabnTZE/s320/DSCN0682.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5096854240138566242" />

St. Louis is a great city to visit. There is are many things to enjoy (baseball, live music, museums, etc) that will not break your bank account. The main reason I adore visiting St. Louis is the friendly people. I walked into the stadium Monday afternoon not knowing a soul (my friend Greg did not arrive until the 5th inning) As I sat down, I was mingling about with everyone around me! After the 6th inning, I noticed a lady working on a lace project. Lo and behold, Anna was working on Mystery Stole 3! Now, that's talent!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/RruqpFdnGnI/AAAAAAAAACE/EV7vZP5wao4/s320/DSCN0693.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5096855026117581426" />

I was pooped by the end of the game. So, I called it a night (of course, after having dinner and drinks at a Bosnian restaurant on Taft).

The next morning, I made the pilgrimage to Sheri's Loopy Ewe. I could barely contain my excitement once I set foot in her basement...Needless to say, after about an hour (or so) of touching everything several times, I was able to pick a few items. No, I do not feel guilty in the least. I thoroughly enjoyed the stash enhancing event!
Thanks Sheri!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/Rrupe1dnGlI/AAAAAAAAAB0/gGbQsylhqdA/s320/DSCN0698.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5096853750512294482" />

After suppressing my poor buddy, Greg to my yarn shopping experience, I figured the least I could do was pay homage to another one of my favorites: Shlafly Bottleworks! I fancy two beers in this world and only one of which is the US. We had lunch and spent the afternoon enjoying the lovely aroma of hops.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/RrutOldnGoI/AAAAAAAAACM/zFdBUX43FyM/s320/DSCN0700.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5096857869385931394" />

I am back home, anxiously trying to complete clue 5 of the Mystery Stole 3. Lo and behold this is what awaited, my first package from the Yarn Pirate's Booty Club!!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/RqAT0Gwkk_I/AAAAAAAAABU/YndHf04NHqU/s320/DSCN0661.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5089089364817122290" />

I forced myself to drink my espresso prior to opening the contents. Needless to say, my throat is still a tad sore from the gulping... This is a Booty Club exclusive in a fingering weight superwash merino called Rum Runner. Not only is the sock yarn fabulous, Georgia was generous enough to include a limited edition soap(which smells so good I don't want to use it!) made by the Good Soapworks of Athens and an adorable Yarn Pirate button. Hum...Now the problem of what to make with the Rum Runner...

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/RqAVI2wklAI/AAAAAAAAABc/fnENazWkGh8/s320/DSCN0663.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5089090820811035650" />

MS3

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/Rp6v72wkk-I/AAAAAAAAABM/0ufF6eEsHM8/s320/DSCN0602.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5088698071821620194" />

I picked up a bit of overtime this past week. YAY!! Finally, I have some way of holding myself accountable for my yarn stash, projects, etc. My user name is willltravel4yarn (for those already on Ravelry). I figure my first project will be to photograph and document this beautiful mess of my sock yarn stash. The rest of the stash...well... before I photograph, I will be compelled to organize the spare bedroom (a.k.a. the yarn room). Ravelry is great...Not only can you organize your stash, projects, knitting/crochet books, etc, you can also check out the stash/projects/etc of friends! Unfortunately, it is still under the beta testing and the only way to get in (as of yet) is by invitation. Off to start taking photos of my stuff...

Clue 1 finally finished!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Ib1DhT_P5js/Ro2HGTKTxzI/AAAAAAAAAAs/DzJQuQmBfpw/s320/DSCN0597.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5083868096663635762" />

I joined the Mystery Stole 3 group a couple of weeks ago. The group was started by the infamous Melanie, the same designer of the beautiful Hanami, and Mystery Stole 1 and 2. Every Friday, she submits a file of rows for the stole (with an unknown theme). At around mid-August, the stole should be complete, and the stole's theme will be obvious.

Other than socks, this is my first attempt at a larger project of lace. After 4 times of painful ripping, I finally have got the hang of it. I have learned that working lace and tv, working lace with the boyfriend telling you about his crappy day at work, working lace without power, or working lace with wine are combinations of disaster to distract one from accomplishing 100 rows of lace. So, I knit when the boyfriend is NOT around, during the day, AFTER my first espresso, and with my lovely chart keeper.

The suggested colors for this stole are black or white. Since, I already have a black stole and don't care for anything in all white, I chose a dark purple. I am using 2 skeins of Zephyr in plum. I must say these addi turbo lace needles are GREAT for knitting lace. Yes, they ARE worth all the hype. They are pointy and slick enough to make knitting lace rather enoyable! I am using a size 4 of these needles and about 300 of purpe opal-like size 8 bead. It is not apparent from the photo that there are beads incorporated.

Now that clue one has been finished, I am off to finish the sock I started last week...

Blog bandwagon

So, I have finally decided to start one of these. I haven't quite finished playing around with all the settings yet, so please accept my apologies. Content of this blog will cover knitting and my travels. I still have a few things to play with before it looks pretty. So, I leave you with this sock. I started the baudelaire last week using interlacements tiny toes in taiga.
